Somerfords' Home and School Association
Celebrating our improved school library
We are delighted to celebrate the successful completion of our library improvement project at Somerfords’ Walter Powell CofE Primary School and Pre-School.
Thanks to the fantastic support of SHASA, our families, friends and the wider community, we have reached our fundraising goal, enabling us to enhance and refresh our much-loved school library.
The improvements include hundreds of new books for children from Pre-School to Year 6, along with new furniture and cosy rugs to make the space even more welcoming and comfortable. The refreshed layout and updated displays help showcase the growing collection, creating an inviting environment where children can browse, discover new authors and develop their love of reading.
Reading continues to be a key focus for the school, and these enhancements ensure our library remains a vibrant, engaging space at the heart of school life. We will continue to build on this investment by adding to the collection over time.
Special thanks go to Malmesbury Bonfire Committee and Malmesbury Carnival for their generous grant funding this year towards upgrading our library. It is wonderful to see the children already enjoying the refreshed space and we can’t wait to hear what they’ve been reading.
Goals for Spring/Summer 2026
Our current fundraising priorities are to help cover coach travel for educational trips, provide headphones to complement the iPads previously funded by SHASA, and strengthen music provision through new percussion instruments and specialist music days.
